If you care for Mother Nature, she will care for you. And as a leading boutique hotel, Little Tuscany recognises that it has an impact on the environment. This is directly through the consumption of energy, water and other resources used throughout our daily operations, as well as indirectly through our supplier chain.

Little Tuscany’s objectives are to:                                                                                                            

• Increase environmental awareness throughout the Hotel                                                     
• Support environmental initiatives and responsible tourism
• Promote and support environmental friendliness among suppliers
• Avoid the use of materials that may cause harm to the environment
• Ensure compliance and adopt best practices wherever possible                                                                  

Initiatives currently underway:

The reduction of paper-trails through regular report audits as well as use of electronic documents where possible (e.g. meeting agendas).

Water-saving

• Water usage is monitored on a constant basis
• Bathrooms are fitted with low-flow shower heads
• All taps are closed during cleaning
• All leaking and dripping taps and toilets are fixed immediately
• Regular plants have been replaced with indigenous water-wise plants, reducing the need for frequent watering

Energy-saving

• Lights and air conditioning units are only switched on for rooms that are in use, and arrival rooms
• All appliances and lights are switched off when not in use
• Curtains are always open during the day to promote the use of natural light
• The use of natural ventilation where possible
• TVs are always switched off
   

Waste management

• Stringent monitoring of littering on the property
• Shredded paper is used in packaging instead of plastic
• Recycling of:
• Printer / photocopier cartridges
• Cardboard and paper
• Plastic
• Glass
• Cans
• Used batteries
• Wet waste - separated from other refuse and dispatched accordingly
• Garden / flower refuse - separated and dispatched accordingly
• Kitchen oil - collected by an outside contractor and dispatched accordingly 
• Housekeeping has its own recycling bin.
   

Food Purchases

• Purchasing of environmentally friendly products where possible
• Purchasing mainly fresh foods
